Before we go straight into the story we need to discuss what a main event star or a main eventer is and we need to clear the concept to those who are not ever with these terms. A main eventer is a wrestler on the roster who always remained on the main event storylines and feuds, and also gets featured on the world championship storylines very often.
If we talk about the main eventers in WWE right now, one picture comes into the mind faster than anyone, and that is the WWE Undisputed Universal champion Roman Reigns. Except of that you can name Brock Lesnar but it looks like he is not coming back to WWE very soon after his defeat at WrestleMania 38, so we cannot count him.
Why WWE Is Failing To Build Main Event Stars
So who else is a main eventer in WWE right now? You can name a few but how many of them could be considered as a legit opponent for Roman Reigns? To be very frank there is none. The way Roman Reigns defeated Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38, it is impossible to compare anyone with Roman Reigns. He might have got a very strong build, but on the other hand it is a very foolish build as well.
You make the face of the promotion as the strongest of them all, but definitely you build some parallel faces who could match him and you can book some unpredictable matches anytime, on any pay per view event. After the departure of Brock Lesnar, is there any such face? The answer is no.
Of course they can book matches between Roman Reigns and Bobby Lashley or Drew McIntyre, but they will be straight out predictable. Everybody would know that Roman will not drop the Championship to any of these wrestler, in fact anyone in the current roster right now.
A lot of WWE fans are expecting to see Cody Rhodes becoming a worthy opponent for Roman Reigns Hindi upcoming time but that would take a very long booking process. The way WWE built Roman Reigns, if they have to build a worthy opponent, they have to book another wrestler with a similar build. It will not be very easy.
WWE literally squash the whole roster just to promote the Roman Reigns vs Brock Lesnar feud for WrestleMania 38, and at the end it turned out to be an awful match. So squashing the whole roster turned out to be a very bad decision. They squashed the whole roster just to build one single wrestler. We cannot understand WWE’s obsession with Roman Reigns, but by this way they are harming their own project.
To be very frank, except of Roman Reigns there is not even a single man event star in the roster. Of course there are some upper mid card stars, but none of them could offer and unpredictable match against Roman Reigns. In every era of WWE, there had been multiple main event starts who had been worthy for the faces of the particular time.
Right now we can clearly say that Roman Reigns is even more overrated than John Cena or Hulk Hogan. All of his matches are blatantly predictable and least interesting of the whole card, everybody knows whoever he faces he will win. He is even more predictable than John Cena and this is one of the reasons behind the lack of fun factor in WWE. WWE needs to build some worthy rivals for Roman Reigns if they want to make things interesting.
