In a recent announcement from last week, it got confirmed the Smackdown tag team championships will be on the line at the Clash of Champions PPV. In case you did not know, Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable are the number one contenders for the titles for quite a long time who is yet to receive a full matchup against the champions, The Usos.
Ever since becoming the contenders, they had a matchup against the champions which got disqualified due to Jey Uso suffering an ankle injury. So, technically, they still owe a two-on-two matchup which was supposed to get confirmed at the Smackdown-exclusive event. But, WWE instead chose to insert The New Day into the mix making it a triple threat match.

On last night’s Smackdown Live, the lineups changed yet again, as Rusev and Aiden English managed to enter themselves into the contest, as well. They took on The New Day for the first time on the show. For the past few weeks, they had different backstage altercations that set up this match.

It was unexpected to witness the newly formed team came up, as the winner after Rusev took out Kofi Kingston via a super-kick on the neck and picked up a clean pinfall win. By this victory, the entertaining team has been able to make the contest at Clash of Champions a fatal-4-way bout. They will get their first chance to get the gold around their waist. WWE.com confirmed this with the following updates:
“During a night where every title is on the line, SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos will defend the gold in a Fatal 4-Way Match at WWE Clash of Champions on Sunday, Dec. 17, streaming live on WWE Network.
Who will leave Boston with the SmackDown Tag Team Titles? Find out on a night where every championship is on the line at WWE Clash of Champions, streaming live Sunday, Dec. 17, at 8 ET/5 PT on the award-winning WWE Network!”

Rusev and Aiden English are quite over with the crowd at this point by acting as the actual entertainers. So, it would not be surprising to see them holding the championships, sooner especially considering that the actual contenders, Benjamin and Gable do not have any such momentums in their favour.
