We expected to witness the fallouts from the Hell in a Cell PPV on this week’s Smackdown Live. So, it was kicked off by The Usos who emerged as the new tag team champions on the brand by defeating The New Day. This was the first-ever Hell in a Cell match for the tag titles in the history of the WWE.
These two teams are the most experienced tag teams on the current WWE roster and tore each other apart during the match. So, the new champs called out the former ones to have a confrontation. Both the teams gave credit to each other for bringing the best out of them and gave the audience an A-star match that they deserved.
Now, technically, The New Day still deserves a rematch for their titles. They lost the title inside the unforgiving steel structure. Being the former champions does give them a clause of getting another opportunity to have the title back against the new champions.
However, this rivalry has been ongoing ever since the post-Wrestlemania season. So, the officials decided not to extend it with one more match, and the longest reigning tag team champions did not want to invoke their rematch clause. Rather, we saw the rest of the tag teams from the Smackdown division coming on the show to have a spot as the new contenders.
So, Hype Bros, Chad Gable-Shelton Benjamin, The Ascension and Breezango showed up to grab the opportunity. Daniel Bryan came out to announce a fatal-4-way match among the four of them with the winner getting to face the most dominating tag team present on the entire WWE roster, The Usos.
Quite expectedly, Breezango, the favourite team was in the control of the match for the better part of the match. But, since they already had a feud with The Usos, previously, the creative team gave a chance to the newly formed tag team of Gable and Benjamin.
They connected with their finishing combo off the top rope to pick up the win to officially become the new contenders for the tag titles. The exact date as of when they would challenge The Usos is still unknown. We expect to hear further confirmations on this, shortly.
