Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler came to WWE Raw during the Superstar Shakeup in 2018. The first name was from NXT roster, whereas, the second name was from the Smackdown roster. They surprised the world by showing up on Monday Night TV. They created a significant impact by attacking Slater and Rhyno.
These two continued to gang up on multiple superstars and made them victims. The mean tactics have made them one of most dominant forces present on the main roster. Dolph Ziggler capitalised the most through this partnership. Earlier, he was the current Intercontinental Champion defeating Seth Rollins.
Drew McIntyre was the sole reason behind this win. He distracted the former champion allowing Ziggler to pick up the title. Now the question remains why WWE formed this tag team when they needed to push the former NXT superstar. This alliance is giving momentums to Ziggler but not the needed one.
The reliable source, Dave Meltzer recently stated the reason which is as follows, (courtesy stillrealtous.com),
“Dave Meltzer recently noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that he expects WWE to protect Drew McIntyre moving forward, which could be why McIntyre was put in a tag team with Dolph Ziggler.”
Some of you might wonder whether this would do any betterment for the career of McIntyre or not. They need to know it’s a really good strategy from the creative team. We have seen names like Tye Dillinger, Bobby Roode and even Nakamura getting lost on the main roster due to a solo run.
It would not happen in case of Drew McIntyre. WWE officials are not willing to give any abrupt push on the roster. But meanwhile, he will continue to stay relevant by this tag team with Dolph Ziggler. Rumours suggest he might turn on against his partner to make a name for himself shortly.
The head honchos of the WWE Raw, Vince McMahon, and Triple H are quite heavy on Drew McIntyre. They see this man as the future world champion. So it was evident that they would want to save this guy for a main-event run in due course. He can also become a marquee name at Wrestlemania if utilised correctly.
