The latest episode of WWE NXT was the final one before this Sunday’s Battleground premium live event. The semi-final matches from the NXT Women’s Championship tournament took place to insert the final match to crown a new champion at the PLE. Besides, Tyler Bate and former main roster member Dabba-Kato were seen in action on the May 23 episode, aired live on the USA Network at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. Lyra Valkyria defeated Cora Jade in a WWE NXT Women’s Championship Tournament Semifinals Match in the opening contest. Valkyria omitted the earlier offenses created by Jade before finally putting her away with a roundhouse kick. After digesting the loss, Jade took a kendo stick and injured Valkyria’s knees.
WWE NXT Results (23/05/23): Unexpected help for Axiom
Dabba-Kato defeated Axiom after flattening the latter with a clothesline and then pinning him with a double-chokeslam. Dabba continued attacking Axiom after the match but Reggie arrived at the aid of Axiom. Reggie offered a handshake to Axiom which was denied.
The Creed Brothers had a confrontation segment with Gallus to promote the WWE NXT Tag Team Championship Match set for Battleground. The two teams got into a fight. When it seemed that Gallus was about to gain the upper hand, Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo equalized the numbers game for The Creed Brothers, forcing Gallus to retreat.
Tyler Bate defeated Eddy Thorpe in the next match with the Tyler Driver 97 finisher.
Nathan Frazer defeated Noam Dar via Dragon Lee’s distraction. Frazer blindsided Dar with a shot and delivered a Phoenix Splash for the pin to win.

Hank Walker defeated Tank Ledger in the next match after connecting with a crossbody.
Former WWE NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Gigi Dolin and Jacey Jayne were featured in a verbal exchange. Jayne challenged Dolin to a steel cage match. Dolin accepted and upped the stakes by adding that it would be a weaponized steel cage match to settle their differences, once and for all.
Luca Crusifino defeated Von Wagner (with Mr. Stone) via DQ. The disqualification arrived after Wagner was continuously beating down Luca. The beatdown continued even after the match bell rang. Despite Stone prohibiting him, Wagner powerbomb-ed Crusifino on top of the announcement desk.
WWE NXT Results (23/05/23): Championship tournament semi-final main event match
Tiffany Stratton defeated Roxanne Perez in the main event in the WWE NXT Women’s Championship Tournament Semifinals Match. Stratton countered a Pop-Rox attempt with a powerbomb and then landed the Prettiest Moonsault Ever for the win. Stratton vs. Valkyria for the vacant NXT Women’s Title was thereby announced for Battleground PLE.
After the match, a hooded mystery persona attacked Roxanne Perez on the ramp. Dijak and Ilja Dragunov then appeared at ringside, brawling with each other for a contract signing segment. The two signed on paper to make their Last Man Standing Match official at WWE NXT Battleground. They continued to brawl as NXT went off the air.
