The next themed episode under WWE’s third banner is all set in the form of NXT Spring Breaking 2023 or NXT Spring Breakin’, whatever you like to call it. For the second straight year, WWE will be hosting this special episode that paves the way for a lengthy summer to follow. Now, it appears that the main event match for the upcoming episode is also set.
Going by last night’s episode of NXT, the NXT Championship match should serve as the main event of NXT Spring Breaking 2023. The new champion Carmelo Hayes’ first NXT Title defense will go down in that match and his challenger was also revealed during the April 11 edition of NXT.
WWE NXT: Two Major Championship Matches Set For April 18 Episode
In the main event of NXT, Grayson Waller won a fatal-4-way number one contender’s match, defeating Dragon Lee, JD McDonagh, and Duke Hudson. Hudson was never supposed to be in the match but he was given away the position by the former champion, Bron Breakker. In the match, Lee downed Hudson with a powerbomb but Waller took the opportunity to take him out with a Stunner from behind.
Waller then pinned the already fallen Hudson to secure a shot at Hayes’ title. Hayes came out after the contender’s match to confront Waller after which the match was officially declared for NXT Spring Breaking 2023. This is also the only match declared for the themed episode set for April 25.
Bron Breakker excluded himself from a title match at NXT Spring Breaking 2023
As noted above, Hayes will be defending his title against Waller at NXT Spring Breaking 2023 special in his first championship defense since winning the belt from Bron Breakker at Stand & Deliver. On the other hand, Waller will get his third title match opportunity at winning the NXT Championship in 2023. He previously lost two singles title matches to then NXT Champion Bron Breakker in January and February.
Breakker could have also been in the number one contender’s match at NXT Spring Breaking 2023 but he revealed in a segment that he doesn’t need the approval of fans anymore. Following Stand & Deliver, during the April 4 edition of NXT, Breakker turned heel by attacking Hayes with a lariat and spear while also powerbomb-ing Trick Williams.
