WWE RAW - Page 2

A branch of WWE, WWE RAW is a professional wrestling television program. Also called RAW Live or just RAW, it made its debut on January 11, 1993. Ever since its debut, it has been considered as the flagship program of WWE. Currently, RAW airs live on Monday evenings at 8 pm ET on the USA Network in the United States.

The show moved from the USA Network to TNN in September 2000 which was rebranded to Spike TV in August 2003. However, a couple of years, RAW returned to the USA Network and is still being aired on the same network. Ever since its inception in 1993, the show has broadcast live from 208 different areas in 171 cities and towns in eleven different nations (the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Afghanistan in 2005, Iraq in 2006 and 2007, South Africa, Germany, Japan, Italy, and Mexico).

History:

The programme first aired on January 11, 1993 as WWF's Monday Night RAW. It replaced Prime Time Wrestling, which aired on USA Network for eight years. Initially, the show was sixty minute long. In addition, its broadcast also started a watershed moment in wrestling. Traditionally, wrestling shows were taped on sound stages with small audiences or at large arena shows. The RAW formula was considerably different from the taped weekend shows that aired at the time such as Superstars and Wrestling Challenge. Instead of matches taped weeks in advance with studio voice overs and taped discussion, RAW was a show shot and aired to a live audience.

RAW started at the Grand Ballroom at the Manhattan Center. It aired live every week. The venue and live action played a crucial role in making the show a hit. At the same time, WWF had to suffer financial drain due to the weekly live schedule.

The first episode produced outside of New York was taped in Bushkill, Pennsylvania in November 1993. RAW then left the Manhattan Center permanently as the show would be taken on the road throughout the United States and was held in smaller venues.

On September 4, 1995, the WWF's chief competitor World Championship Wrestling (WCW) began airing its new wrestling show, Monday Nitro, live each week on TNT. The launch of the show from WCW kickstarted the Monday Night Wars. RAW and Nitro went head-to-head for the first time on September 11, 1995. It was a close contest as neither of the two shows could earn the bragging rights in the rating wars.

But from mid-1996, Nitro left RAW behind due to the nWo angle. It started a ratings win-streak that lasted for 84 consecutive weeks, ending on April 13, 1998. On February 3, 1997, Raw went to a two-hour format to compete with the extra hour on Nitro, and by March 10, it was renamed to RAW Is War.

RAW finally regained the supremacy in the Monday Night Wars after airing WrestleMania XIV in March 1998.

On September 25, 2000, RAW Is War moved from the USA Network to TNN (which later became Spike TV). The new television contract with Viacom, TNN/Spike TV's parent company, and the subsequent purchase of competitor WCW led to many changes in WWF's programming content.

WWF's ever-rising popularity then soon received another boost as their rival WCW witnessed a sharp decline. Consequently, Time Warner sold selected assets such as the WCW name, tapes, and contracts to the WWF in March 2001 for $3 million. The final episode of Nitro, which aired on March 26, 2001, began with Vince McMahon making a short statement about his recent purchase of WCW and ended with a simulcast with RAW on TNN and Nitro on TNT. The purchase also saw the end of the name RAW is War.

In March 2002, the WWF introduced 'brand extension' which was a move made to make two branches due to the overabundance of talents. The two branches were RAW and SmackDown. Shortly thereafter, the WWF was legally required to change the name of the company to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).

In 2011, the company announced that the wrestlers were no longer exclusive to their respective brand. The move all but ended the brand extension.  On July 23, 2012, Raw aired its 1000th episode, which also began its permanent three-hour format.  On May 25, 2016, WWE reintroduced the brand split, and a new set with red ring ropes, a brand new stage, used at SummerSlam.

Here are the broadcasting details of SmackDown:

United States:

In the United States, USA Network enjoys the right of hosting the show.  Occasionally, RAW is aired on same-day tape delay when WWE is on an overseas tour.

Canada:

From 1995 to 2006, Raw was shown on The Sports Network until it moved to rival sports broadcaster The Score (now renamed Sportsnet 360) after it was announced that TSN would be carrying Monday Night Football for the 2006 season. Consequently, the Canadian viewers had to watch via tape-delay as The Score did not broadcast RAW live at that time.

WWE Star Eva Marie Shares New Glittering Pink Power Photos

Eva Marie has suffered a devastating loss on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw but certainly didn’t bring her confidence, down. The rivalry with Doudrop may have come to an end with this matchup on Raw but the leader of Eva-Lution is busy feeding her fanbase with the content they want on social media on a regular basis.

Since the return to Monday Night Raw, Eva Marie has made it a regular trend of posting new hot pictures every Tuesday night. This week was no exception as she continued to focus on her Pink Power. Taking to her Instagram account, the resident of Southlake, Texas mesmerized her fans with a new set of photos where she was dazzling in a glittering outfit.

Her husband Jonathon Coyle posted some bombs as well as firing emojis on the comment box to praise Eva’s style statement.

Eva Marie lost her match on this week’s Raw

As seen on Raw during her scheduled matchup on Raw, Doudrop ran into the turnbuckles as Eva Marie moved from there. Eva kept on attacking but Doudrop came up with a headbutt and then followed up with a big running splash in the corner. Eva raked her eyes but Doudrop took her knees out. Doudrop went ahead and hit the back senton and then the crossbody on the mat for the pin to win.

Following this win, Doudrop is likely to end her ongoing beef with Eva Marie to move on to make a statement on her own. Meanwhile, Marie should look forward to something different on Raw. As her second stint with the WWE continues, the pink-haired Diva also remembered her first stint with the company in a recent appearance on Oral Sessions Podcast with Renee Young.

“I really feel like I came in at such a beautiful time,” Eva Marie said. “The girls that I did come in with, immediately on the main roster, now aren’t there. But I did get to go back down to NXT and work without the girls that are killing it now up on the roster. One of my favorite times, when I was still in the company, was when I went back down to NXT and I got to work with Bayley. She’s absolutely incredible. (That’s) my favorite storyline thus far, besides the one I’m currently in.”

Photos: Mandy Rose Declares New Era In WWE NXT 2.0 With Brand New Look

Fitting to a new start by the WWE NXT brand billed as NXT 2.0, Mandy Rose also debuted a new look on the latest bygone episode. The blinder Mandy is gone and a brunette Mandy was introduced to the world with a vicious new attitude. It appears that she is here to take over the Tuesday night programming of the WWE alongside her newly found partners.

Mandy Rose came to NXT from RAW earlier in the summer who wrestled her first match on the August 31 NXT show since the return, losing to Sarray via count-out. She then proceeded to form an alliance with Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne as the trio is now functioning as a faction. The team-up continued on last night’s NXT show and it never looked any stronger.

Initially, Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter vs. Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne was the tag match set for NXT 2.0. Kacy booted Jayne and tagged in Kayden. A hooded woman then ran down and shoved Kacy off the top turnbuckle as the referee called for the bell due to the disqualification.

The hooded woman revealed herself to be mandy Rose who’s sporting dark hair. Sarray ran down to interrupt the triple-teaming on Kacy and Kayden. She fought off Dolin and Jayne, then went after Rose but Rose retreated from the ring. The two sides yelled at each other from the ring and the ringside area to set up a six-woman tag team match.

In this new match, Sarray, Kacy Catanzaro, and Kayden Carter were defeated by Mandy Rose, Gigi Dolin, and Jacey Jayne. It was Rose who picked up the pinfall win by planting Kayden with a pumping knee-strike on Kayden and thereby making a huge statement.

Once the show was over, Mandy Rose offered some gorgeous snaps of her Brunette look on Instagram with the caption mentioning the start of a ‘new era’ on NXT. Former WWE Star Billie Kay commented Wow on the photos while Renee Young approved the look by saying, “Into it.” Mick Foley’s daughter Noelle Foley has also loved the look.

Since the debuting of the new look, Mandy Rose has been trending on the internet for the rightful reasons as her fanbase is literally drooling over the brunette makeover. Hopefully, this look will also bring some luck to the superstar’s WWE career.

Charlotte Flair is in an elite league of her own as she has 12 championship wins on the main roster, to date. She is also one of the only three men in WWE history to be a champion for more than 1000 days (alongside Fabulous Moolah and Asuka). Being a top superstar, she was one of the center of attractions of this week’s Monday Night Raw in which she competed in a non-title match against Shayna Baszler.

The Show from the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts appeared to be pretty eventful for Charlotte Flair for another reason, too. Cricket Wireless arranged a fan meet-and-greet session before Raw airs this week from The Garden. WWE Universe was elated to meet the reigning Raw Women’s Champion at that event.

As seen on the show, Charlotte Flair competed in a non-title matchup against Shayna Baszler and defeated her in that bout. Via an interference from Nia Jax, Baszler was unable to hit a top rope move after which Flair connected with a big boot to pick up the win.

After the match, Charlotte Flair stood tall in the ring now but the music interrupted, and out came Alexa Bliss with Lilly doll. Bliss put Lilly on the top turnbuckle and handed a gift box to Flair. It appeared to be a doll based on The Queen’s physique and Bliss named it Charlie. The two eventually indulged in a brawl as Bliss hit a Destroyer to put down Flair.

WWE Draft 2021 Confirmed To Return In October

WWE Draft 2021 has now been confirmed to take place next month. After a number of speculations and rumors around the date of the event, WWE has finally come up with an official announcement during this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw around the process that will switch things up for the superstars.

A promo aired during the RAW episode from the TD Garden in Boston that officially announced the beginning of the WWE Draft 2021 for the October 1 SmackDown on FOX. It will then be wrapped with the October 4 RAW episode on the USA Network.

WWE Draft 2021 Confirmed To Return In October 95

The October 1 SmackDown was originally scheduled to take place at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, but due to Hurricane Ida, the show was moved to the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore, Maryland. The October 4 episode of RAW is now scheduled to take place at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.

Possible Reason Behind Big E Becoming New WWE Champion

WWE Draft 2021 date was changed in recent times

The October 4 RAW episode, which is the second night of WWE Draft 2021 was also supposed to be the RAW 30th season premiere. But WWE hasn’t confirmed about it, as of this writing. Per the previous reports, the draft season will also begin the King of the Ring and Queen of the Ring tournaments for the WWE male and female superstars. There’s also no official update on the same.

Andrew Zarian of Mat Men wrestling podcast reports that Big E winning the WWE title was initially planned for the original WWE Draft 2021 date of RAW. But then it was preponed to this week as WWE wanted to offer something special to their viewers against Monday Night Football. This was also a last-minute decision to increase RAW ratings since AEW Dynamite beat WWE RAW in the 18-49 demo ratings by a very small margin, last week.

WWE Draft 2021 Confirmed To Return In October 96

Big E was also rumored to be switched to Raw in WWE Draft 2021. However, with the WWE Title win, he is already a part of the red brand as The New Day has reunited on the same brand once again. Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods celebrated with him for the title win as Raw went off the air. The group has been apart since the 2020 WWE Draft.

Possible Reason Behind Big E Becoming New WWE Champion

As seen in the main event of this week’s RAW, Big E successfully cashed-in his Money in The Bank 2021 contract on Bobby Lashley to become the new WWE Champion. Since E is a Smackdown superstar, it was a surprising decision to see the cash-in happening on Raw, especially given the fact that he was rumored to be drafted on the red brand in the upcoming edition of Raw. WWE reportedly changed plans for the cash-in happening, as per the reports following this week’s Raw.

Some fans believe that the title win was indeed a last-minute decision to increase RAW ratings since AEW Dynamite beat WWE RAW in the 18-49 demo ratings by a very small margin, last week.

Possible Reason Behind Big E Becoming New WWE Champion 112

To keep things interesting on Raw in Boston, Big E captured the WWE Title from Bobby Lashley right after Lashley retained his title over RAW Tag Team Champion Randy Orton in the original main event of the night.

In an update, Andrew Zarian of Mat Men reports that the WWE Title change was initially slated to happen for the original WWE Draft date for RAW but then it was preponed for this week. This was the reason that Lashley vs. Orton was also pulled off Extreme Rules 2021, earlier this week.

Big E is back on WWE Raw brand

WWE confirmed on this week’s RAW that the 2021 WWE Draft will begin with the October 1 SmackDown from the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore, and will then end with the October 4 RAW from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.

That being said, Big E will now be joining the Raw brand meaning that The New Day has reunited on the same brand. Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods celebrated with E to send Raw off the air. The group has disbanded since the 2020 WWE Draft who only made special appearances together since then.

Possible Reason Behind Big E Becoming New WWE Champion 113

In more news to the title switch, Big E’s title win was also a move to retain WWE’s viewership against Monday Night Football. WWE came up with the teasing as the superstar announced on Twitter that he plans on cashing-in his MITB contract on the show from Boston.

“Let’s let that cat out of the bag…I intend on cashing in my Money in the Bank contract tonight and cashing in to become WWE Champion.”

Then Big E continued hyping up the cash-in throughout the night in order to keep the anticipation high around the show.

This week’s RAW started as Mr. Money in the Bank came out to the arena. Randy Orton was scheduled to compete for the WWE Championship tonight. RK-Bro also came out followed by Bobby Lashley and MVP who also came out to the arena and entered the ring.

They kept talking about their WWE Championship match later tonight and Big E reminded that he was holding the Money in the Bank briefcase so he had his visions set on cashing in his contract tonight. Both Orton and Lashley said that was not going to happen.

MVP said Big E was too scared of Roman Reigns or Brock Lesnar so that he left SmackDown and came to RAW. Lashley added he was not scared of anyone. The segment ended as Randy Orton nailed Bobby Lashley with an RKO.

Match 1 – Charlotte Flair defeated Shayna Baszler

This was a good match. It went on for over eight minutes and both athletes were quite good in this competition. At the end, Nia Jax cost a distraction for Shayna and Charlotte Flair capitalised with a Big Boot to pin her.

After the match, Alexa Bliss came out to the arena. She offered a present to Charlotte. Charlotte opened a present and it was a doll identically dressed to her. Alexa said everybody deserved a friend. Charlotte argued with her threw the doll to her. Alexa attacked Charlotte and beat her down.

Match 2 – The Viking Raiders and Drew McIntyre defeated Jinder Mahal, Veer and Shanky

RAW

This six man tag team match was short and it was an easy victory for the babyface side. Drew pinned Shanky with the Claymore. Shanky had no such part in this match apart from taking the pin.

Match 3 – WWE United States Champion Damian Priest defeated Jeff Hardy to retain

Jeff Hardy might have lost the match but it was not a jobber type booking for him. This was actually quite a good match where he was equally treated. The match went on for nearly nine minutes and Priest pinned him with a Swinging Face First. After the match, Sheamus attacked Priest but Priest fought back.

Match 4 – Nikki ASH defeated Tamina

RAW
RAW. Image Credits: Twitter

The match was booked for 5 minutes and the ending of the match is perhaps the biggest botch of the year so far. Nikki attempted pin Tamina with a Top Rope DDT, Tamina kicked out but the referee counted three. Tamina was a little late to kick out. Nikki won but the announcer of the match announced the winner of the match was Tamina.

Everyone in the arena, the fans, commentators even the wrestlers were puzzled. What just happened? Tamina and Nikki even started fighting after the match not knowing the fact if the match was actually called off. Natalya and Rhea Ripley tried to manage the situation by attacking them.

Match 5 – Rhea Ripley defeated Natalya by Submission

The match was booked for nearly 10 minute and somehow it saved the botches made in the previous match. There was nothing special to be book for 10 minutes as he was quite a slow match. At the end, Rhea made Natalya submit with the Inverted Vertical Leg Lock.

Match 6 – Mace, T Bar, AJ Styles and Omos defeated Mustafa Ali, Mansoor and The New Day

AJ Styles worked for the most part of the match and it was booked in the customer is style of any match in which Omos is booked. He entered the ring at last and destroyed everyone. He pinned Mustafa Ali with a Two Handed Chokeslam.

Match 7 – Doudrop defeated Eva Marie

The match was short and mostly dominated by Doudrop. And honestly, Eva Marie was really bad in the ring. Don’t know how she made it to WWE. Doudrop pinned Eva Marie with a Running Cross Body.

Match 8 – WWE Champion Bobby Lashley defeated Randy Orton to retain

RAW
RAW. Image Credits: Twitter

The match was quite good and it was booked for over 10 minutes. Orton was portrayed as a body opponent who could snatch the title any time. But Lashley pinned him with a sudden Spear.

Match 9 – Big E defeated WWE Champion Bobby Lashley to become new champion

Big E cashed in his Money in the Bank after the match. The two minute match was really fun and the best part of the night for sure. E pinned Lashley with a Big Ending. The new WWE Champion Big E celebrated with his friends Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods as this week’s RAW went off air.

This week’s RAW could have been a historic week but ultimately it turned out to be a really average week because of bad booking and botches. Big E cashing in contract was an amazing thing for sure, but it should have been kept a surprise. E should not have appeared earlier in the night. It killed the surprise completely and made it really predictable. And who can forget the botches of Nikki ASH vs. Tamina match? We give it 2.5 stars out of 5.

Big E has become the new WWE Champion on this week’s WWE Raw by cashing in his Money in the Bank contract, won earlier this year. Since the beginning of the show, E has been teasing his cash-in on social media. Then he proceeded to appear on various segments of Raw with the same intention before finally staying true to his words at the final moments of the show.

The main event of WWE Raw witnessed Bobby Lashley retaining the WWE Title over RAW Tag Team Champion Randy Orton. He nailed a spear on Orton for the pinfall win. Once the match was over, Orton was put through a table to add insult to injury.

As Lashley was tending to celebrate his winning moments, out came Big E to cash-in his Money in the Bank contract and get his title shot, Lashley pointed out that he was hurt from the bygone match but the referee rang the bell and the match eventually started.

Big E focused on the hurt knee of Lashley who managed to counter with a Spear. E kicked out of it and then hit Lashley back with a Big Ending to pick up the pinfall win and win the WWE Championship. The New Day members, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods hit the ring to join the celebration to send the show off-air.

Big E starts his first WWE title reign on Raw

This is Big E’s first run with the WWE Title while Lashley held the title for 195 days, winning it from The Miz on the March 1 edition of RAW. Lashley was supposed to defend the title against Orton in a rematch at Extreme Rules with some sort of stipulations but after the happenings on Raw, the match lineup will certainly go through big changes.

“Why not tonight? Why not the hometown of one Kofi Kingston? My sister lives here, my mom went to BC [Boston College] and Tufts [University]. Boston is a beautiful area, a beautiful town. Why not here, why not now?”

Nikki Bella criticized WWE’s Summerslam booking of Bianca Belair

Nikki Bella was in attendance at WWE’s Summerslam event on August 21st although she couldn’t be present in the actual event for some undisclosed reasons. Bianca Belair was scheduled to defend the Smackdown Women’s Championship against Sasha Banks on that night but then she got squashed by a returning Becky Lynch to lose her belt.

While speaking during the SummerSlam afterparty, Nikki Bella criticized Belair’s weak booking on that night,

“You have someone like Bianca who is such an incredible talent, and you can’t help but get frustrated when you see moments like that for a championship that meant so much and was lost within seconds. So I have to admit for this SummerSlam, there truly wasn’t anything that was my favorite.”
