Summerslam 2014 has the potential to be one of the best Summerslams in the history of WWE as the match card of the event is really solid. Almost all the matches that are going to take place in the event are following good storyline and all the matches will be very interesting to see. Overall, the event is filled with some excellent matches on paper, and I say, it looks way better than the recent years’ Summerslams. There are a lot of things that are making things highly impressive. First of all, the WWE World Heavyweight championship match, it might not be following a good storyline but the build up is quite good. Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose are going to fight in a straight one on one battle for the first time in this event as their fight could not take place at Battleground. Stephanie McMahon will be action for the first time after eleven years, it will be interesting to see how she performs after this big break. Other matchers are equally interesting too, like the Divas championship match, AJ Lee – Paige storyline is turning out to be a good success. So let us discuss about all the listed matches individually in the Summerslam match card.
The build up of John Cena vs. brock Lesnar is solid, it is going to be one of the most anticipated matches of the night. The last time John Cena and Brock Lesnar collided was in 2012, and we all know what happened in that match. It might not become a classic match but a good match indeed. John Cena snatched the victory in that match. These two athletes had another feud which might be unknown to a number of fans and that was over eleven years ago. That was the time when John Cena was a heel. He faced the WWE champion Brock Lesnar at the backlash pay per view event which was the event after WrestleMania XIX where Brock Lesnar defeated Kurt Angle to earn the WWE championship. Cena was an amazing heel back then and I believe a lot of haters would like him if he turns heel even at this stage. Definitely, it would be a very physical match and John Cena is going to get beaten badly in it. I do not know if this feud is going to continue for a long time after Summerslam because of the lack of appearances of Brock Lesnar. Let us look forward at this match, we hope it would be a match to remember.
Bray Wyatt is losing the spotlights slowly. Jericho, however, trying his best to lift him on the top but somehow, Wyatt is turning out to be boring. His gimmick looked quite interesting when he made his wrestling debut in last year’s WrestleMania against Kane. He did not perform very well in that match but what attracted the fans was gimmick which was quite impressive and unique too. But nobody ever imagined that it would become so boring after a small amount of time. Jericho is doing what he always did, pushing new talents. But unless they are giving something new in Wyatt’s gimmick, I do not see him going too far. I expected to see these two athletes to be battling at Summerslam in a stipulated match like Last Man Standing match, or maybe a Street Fight, but the stipulation that has been made is a bit different, Luke Harper and Eric Rowan both will be banned from the ring side during the match. It was quite obvious that this match is completely built to give Wyatt a big push, to show the world that he could beat Jericho without the help of his allies. I think this feud will going to continue for another month or a couple.
Randy Orton vs. Seth Rollins is a result of a long feud. These two athletes never fought in a one on one battle. I saw many people are saying that the storyline of this feud is not good enough. But I would say, it is quite decent by the perspective of a professional storyline. The feud has been built up since The Shield split up and since then this is their first one on one match and that is why this is going to be a very interesting match. Expectations are really high from this match as both are big names. This match has the potential to become a Summerslam classic. We hope these two athletes are going to fulfill all the expectations of the fans.
We have not seen a Lumberjack match in a while, especially, I cannot remember the last time I saw a Lumberjack match in a pay per view event. So the stipulation of the match makes it quite attractive. Besides, this is the first straight battle between the two individuals. It would be quite interesting to see how they perform. We can clearly see that these two athletes are the future of WWE, they are improving every single day. I would rate Dean Ambrose highly. He was a tremendous wrestler from the beginning, but what he is doing on the mic is seriously unbelievable. His mic skill is getting better every week and his unique style makes really very interesting. About Seth Rollins, he is equally interesting and he also has high potential. I have feeling that….. don’t laugh at me, I know this would sound a bit weird but I think he has the potential to take the place of CM Punk. Now talking about the match, I personally do not like the Lumberjack matches a lot because in these types of matches, wrestlers do not get much to offer. But these types of matches are always interesting to see because of the involvements of Lumberjacks. Let us see how interesting can this Lumberjack match become.
The storyline of The Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler might not be very interesting, but undoubtedly, it would be quite interesting because this is going to be the first one on one pay per view match of the Miz since he returned. I have always said that Miz is much more interesting as a heel than a babyface. His current gimmick, the superstar gimmick where he always tries to protect his face, this idea is quite brilliant. Hopefully, this feud would be a success and this match would not disappoint the fans.
Jack Swagger is finally getting some spotlights which he rightfully deserves but I feel really disgusted to see WWE kicking Cesaro out of the frame like this. This is their problem, when they push someone, they do not look back and give everything to him, and when they take the cushion back from him, the same person becomes a hardcore undercard. I hate this thing about them. I strongly believe that this Rusev would not be going too long. Every time I see him, he reminds me of Umaga and Vladmir Kozlov. They were given good push in their early stages and suddenly they had been downgraded when they realized they have gone too far with them. Still, I would say, this feud is good. And it is more interesting because of Zeb Colter and Lana. We hope to see this feud goes on for a while more.
Brie Bella vs. Stephanie McMahon I believe is the most anticipated match of the night. Good to see a Diva match getting such highlights. But I still doubt if Brie Bella deserves this spotlight, I mean, she is good, but is she worthy of this push? Okay I can get this fact that she is representing Daniel Bryan during his injury, but I still doubt if she is worthy of this spotlight. She is having all these marks just because of Daniel Bryan, this is the fact. The most interesting thing to watch out in this match would be Stephanie McMahon’s performance. It does not matter if Brie deserves it or not, the storyline is superb, and I would say, it is the best storyline of 2014. We hope to see something special in this match.
I think AJ Lee vs. Paige feud is going to be remembered as one of the best diva feuds in the history of WWE. I think Paige is one of the best divas in the history of WWE. She is this much impressive at this young age, I wonder what she would do when she becomes a veteran. AJ Lee is also good, I cannot say she is excellent by her wrestling abilities, but her mic skill awesome which makes her special. I think this feud should continue for a long time. They can drag this feud till WrestleMania 31. I expected to see a stipulated match at Summerslam between the two, but nothing is added. But it would be interesting to watch by every angle. Let us hope for the best.
