Former WWE star and a former three times NXT Tag Team Champion Kyle O’Reilly who currently works in the All Elite Wrestling recently talked about his experience attending WrestleMania XX as a fan.
WrestleMania XX never get the recognition it deserves, and that is all because of one single thing, Chris Benoit was the main event and biggest attraction of this event. He defeated Shawn Michaels and Triple H in a triple threat match to win his first WWE World Heavyweight Championship. We are pretty sure that this event would have been way more appreciated if it was not for Chris Benoit.
Kyle O’Reilly Recalls Watching WrestleMania XX As A Fan
Apart from this match, there were some more great matches in this event. Eddie Guerrero vs Kurt Angle for the WWE Championship was an amazing match. Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit celebrating together at the end of the event was one of the most emotional moments in professional wrestling history.
Evolution vs The Rock ‘n’ Sock connection was a great match as well. This event also marked the return of the DeadMan gimmick of the Undertaker as the Phenom square off against his half brother Kane for the second time in Wrestlemania. The event also marked the rise of John Cena as he won the WWE United States Championship by defeating The Big Show.
But there were some bad memories about this event as well such as the dream match between Goldberg and Brock Lesnar that turned into a nightmare. It is considered as one of the worst matches in WrestleMania history. Overall it was an amazing event and it would have been really special for the audience that witnessed it live.
Kyle O’Reilly who currently works in the All Elite Wrestling recently spoke on The Sessions with host Renee Paquette where he talked about his experience attending WrestleMania XX as a fan. Kyle O’Reilly said;
“Angle vs Lesnar was the main event. It was Hogan vs McMahon 20 years in the making with the return of Rowdy Roddy Piper, and then Shawn vs Jericho, which was one of the best live matches that I’ve ever seen in my life.
“But just to experience WrestleMania as a 15 year old, for the first time going to a big event, it’s in a different city, and my mom took me and my buddies down and dropped us off and went to the casino to kill a few hours.
“It was so amazing. Everybody has that moment when they know they want to be a pro wrestler, and I had that moment long before that, but just the spectacle of it all, I could just close my eyes and remember everything about it.”
