The former WWE Raw Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley who is the current WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion recently talked about the rebranding of the development Territory of WWE which is the NXT.
The NXT is in existence for over a decade. At first it was more of a talent hunt show similar to the WWE Tough Enough. The Talent Hunt competition was called off in 2012 and NXT has been started to be treated like a development territory.
Rhea Ripley On The Rebranding Of NXT
Throughout the year NXT has produced some of the biggest stars of today, search has the first ever WWE NXT champion Seth Rollins, the current WWE Universal champion Roman Reigns, the current WWE champion Big E and many other big names.
Rhea Ripley herself was quite a big name in the NXT. This is for the first time that WWE event organised in mid card Championship in a development territory. That is right, WWE brought WWE NXT North American Championship to the NXT, which is the mid card Championship of the division.
NXT was quite a popular show among the fans. But it was receiving message competition since the arrival of AEW. Almost every week it was losing on TV rating wars. WWE tried a lot of techniques to regain the ratings but they failed to get it back. So Vince McMahon decided to “Takeover” the NXT and revamped it. From now on WWE will focus more on homegrown talents on the NXT rather than getting big names from the independent promotion and other promotions.
Rhea Ripley who is the current WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion recently spoke to TVInsider.com where she talked about the rebranding of the development Territory of WWE which is the NXT. She said;
“I actually really enjoyed it. I was a little bit skeptical, but I like the metal setting and all that. I was worried about the color. I walked into the building before the show went on and had a good look around.
“It was so epic to see in person. Seeing it on TV is really cool, but seeing it in person was a step more. Seeing the talent who have come out of the Performance Center the last six months. People I don’t even know.
“They’ve all been working so hard. Watching the show I thoroughly enjoyed it. Just seeing the people improve who I did know at NXT. Seeing the new faces. It’s a nice change. It was something that was somewhat needed as well. I do miss the black and gold and grungy vibe. But I think this is a good move with NXT.”
