The Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi became the highest wicket taker in T20 World Cup tournament. He picked 2 wickets in today’s match against New Zealand at Mohali, Chandigarh. Shahid Afridi has now 39 wickets from 33 matches. The first T20 was played in 2007 in South Africa and since then 4 editions of the World Cups have been played.
After Shahid Afridi, Sri Lankan pacer Malinga comes in second place with 38 wickets in 31 matches. Malinga is not currently playing the ICC World T20 Cup due to an injury. Malinga has been the standout bowler for Sri Lanka since a long time.
In the third place, Pakistan banned spinner Saeed Ajmal has played 36 wickets and has played 23 matches. Saeed Ajmal is also not playing the ICC World T20. The fourth place in terms of highest wicket takers in ICC World T20 Cups is Ajantha Mendis who has played 21 matches and has taken 35 wickets. Because of his economy rate, Ajantha Mendis comes in the fourth place. He has not been included in the current Sri Lankan squad of the ICC World T20.
The 5th place is occupied by Umar Gul who has played 24 matches and has taken 35 wickets. His economy rate is much higher. Shahid Afridi has featured in all ICC World T20 Cups. Apart from that other bowlers have represented their respective countries.
Pakistan lost their today’s match against New Zealand and is virtually out of the race for the semi-finals place.
