In the most shocking news to have emerged from England in last 24 hours, it is now believed that Manchester City have made official contact with Liverpool with an approach for Brendan Rodgers to be the new manager at Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City have been linked with a move for the Liverpool duo Raheem Sterling and Jordan Henderson in the past but the blue side of Manchester want to steal Rodgers from Liverpool. Manuel Pellegrini has failed to deliver in his 2nd season as the City manager and the club’s top officials have grown frustrated from Pellegrini’s failed tactics and aimless football on the pitch.

In order to resolve the issue, City want Brendan Rodgers to succeed Pellegrini as the club manager and take the club forward in right direction. Rodgers is facing a mini crisis of his own at Liverpool by losing 2 crucial games in a row against Man United and Arsenal and his job could come under threat if Liverpool fail to finish in top 4 this season.

Manchester City have sensed an opportunity to convince Brendan Rodgers to take the manager’s role at Etihad Stadium and have made formal inquiries about Rodgers’ availability. Liverpool are yet to respond to City’s approach and have put the  things on hold till the end of this season as they want to see how far Rodgers manages to finish the season with Liverpool.

Liverpool are aware that if they let Rodgers leave now, everything at the Anfield club will have to start from the scratch as this team is built by Brendan Rodgers and his signings. The team currently plays a 3-5-2 formation, which has been developed by Brendan Rodgers few months back.

On paper, Rodgers looks like the most apt man to lead Liverpool for many seasons to come but with City’s interest and Rafa Benitez’s desire to manager Liverpool once again could trigger the end for Rodgers’s spell with the club.

Manchester City are poised to sack Manuel Pellegrini when the season ends and have made an impressive shortlist to replace the former Real Madrid and Malaga manager. Names like, Carlo Ancelotti, Diego Simeone, Guss Hiddink and now Brendan Rodgers have surfaced and with the Premier League Experience of Brendan Rodgers, City have made him their number one priority for next season.
