Gunners’ striker Benik Afobe is close to sign a permanent move with Wolves after manager Keeny Jackett confirmed that the club has come to an agreement with Arsenal to sign Afobe.

The 21 year old striker’s contract with Arsenal is in its final year and he is on a season long loan to MK Dons in the League One. And Gunners will be cancelling this deal to let the England U21 player join the Wolves in the current transfer window.

The Englishman has shown consistent form for Wolves and has managed to score 19 goals in his 30 appearance for Wolves in the current season. His two goals against a shocking 4-0 win against Manchester United in the Capital One Cup made him an overnight sensation.

Benik Ofbe joined the London based club at the age of 6, after he was spotted playing for a Sunday League team by an Arsenal scout Garry Nott. He joined the club in 2001 and showed great promise as he played magnificently for the U-16 and U-18 Gunners team. But unfortunately he hasn’t featured for a single time in the first team in spite of the fact that he scored more than 60 goals for the youth side. Ofbe has been on loan from most of the previous season and had spells with Bolton, Milwall, Huddersfield and Milwall.

Wolves’ manager Jackett told Sky Sports after MK defeated Blackburn by 1-0 on Sunday. “He might be (coming in) and we will see how the weekend has gone. Over this weekend the medical should be completed. We have agreed a fee with Arsenal for Benik Afobe and he is undergoing a medical this weekend. We are working towards concluding that early next week.”

“I watched him come through at Arsenal and watched his progress to this time. We feel, at 21, he fits into the bracket that we are looking for that we feel can improve us.

“He’s been brought up at a very good club and has the pace, power and goal scoring record that we need. He will help us in the second half of this season and the years to come.

“Like a lot of our players, I am sure he will be keen to prove himself in the Championship and we feel we will be getting him at a very good time.”
