The former Indian opener Chetan Chauhan, who played 40 Test matches, today took the oath as a Cabinet Minister in Uttar Pradesh’s government headed by Yogi Adityanath. Chauhan, two-time parliamentarian, won from Naugawan Sadat seat.
This is the second biggest appointment of a cricketer as a minister in the state recently as Navjot Singh Sidhu, the former aggressive batsman was sworn in as a minister in Punjab Government headed by Captain Amarinder Singh.
Now, there are three former Indian cricketers who are a minister in state government with Laxmi Ratan Shukla being the third one. Shukla, the former Indian all-rounder is a minister in the state in Bengal government under Mamta Banerjee.
Chauhan is always remembered for opening the innings for India alongside Sunil Gavaskar. Another thing for which he is remembered is scoring his first Test run after spending 25 minutes at the crease. In total, Chauhan has 11-century stands with Gavaskar. Chauhan was the one who was at the other end when Sunil Gavaskar asked him to walk out of the playing area after Melbourne incident in the year 1981.
