David Warner’s 127-run knock proved more than enough for Australia as they defeated England by 3 wickets inside 40 overs in the first ODI of the Carlton Mid-ODI tri series.

Chasing the target of 235, Australia got off to a decent start as David Warner and Aaron Finch scored 33 runs for the first wicket before Finch got out to Chris Woakes. Shane Watson, who had a poor Test series against India, failed here also as he scored only 16 before becoming Chris Jordan’s victim. Warner then got a great support from Steven Smith and the duo added 87 runs for the 3rd wicket before Smith got out to offie Moeen Ali when he was on 37. Warner then added 41 runs for the fourth-wicket with skipper George Bailey and brought up his 3rd ODI century. Brad Haddin and James Faulkner then hit some lusty blows at the end and guided their team to a bonus-point victory.

Mitchell Starc was adjudged the man of the match for his 4 wickets.

Australia will meet India in the second match of tri-series on January 18th at MCG.
