It’s been ten long years since the inception of IPL, the league which was ahead of its time, as believed by many. It revolutionised cricket in many ways, it brought the charm, it brought the crowd, it brought players from all countries to play under the same roof and most importantly it gave cricket a new life.
Twenty-20 was just six years old by then, the newest format as it was termed. In 2008, eight franchises representing different states were formed and the format for IPL was laid down. Thanks to them, many newcomers could leave a mark right from the outset. Over so many years, came a plethora of talent, some faded, some became global superstars. In every season, many new faces tend to stand out, fight through the obstacles and reach the top.
Like last year, Delhi Daredevil’s Shreyas Iyer was one of the finds. Though, a known name in the domestic structure, the youngster caught the attention of few critics by the end of the tournament. Apart from him, Mumbai Indians all-rounder Krunal Pandya, brother of Hardik Pandya, made his presence felt too. Not too fancy a batsman or bowler to look at, he was though effective.
