With the team in danger of wasting a good start, Ravichandran Ashwin wasted a DRS appeal that might cost India dearly in the later stages of their innings.
After Cheteshwar Pujara and KL Rahul had batted India in a position of strength, a mini-collapse saw them getting reduced to 167 for 4. But a 49-run partnership between Ajinkya Rahane and R Ashwin calmed down the nerves in the Indian dressing room before the hosts suffered a body blow when Nathan Lyon dismissed Rahane. 5 runs later, the Australia off-spinner struck again when his ball went straight to hit R Ashwin on his pads. The ball after landing on length and outside the off stump took a sharp to hit Ashwin on the wrong foot and the umpire had no hesitation in raising his finger. But with the ball taking a good bounce, the India star tried his luck and reviewed the decision although he was looking plumb. And as expected, the decision went in the favour of the bowler and Ashwin had to leave the field after scoring 30. Meanwhile, the hosts were 221 for 6 when Ashwin was dismissed.
Here is a clip of that dismissal:
