Kolkata Knight Riders are easily one of the strongest sides ever in the league. With the Shah Rukh Khan as the brand face and the charismatic Sourav Ganguly as the Captain, Kolkata Knight Riders was all about perfection in the opening edition.
In a sense, KKR can be credited to be the team that gave the world IPL’s first glimpse. In the first match of the brand new league, the side had a blockbuster opening. Bolstered by Brendon McCullum’s 158*, they slammed 222/3 in 20 overs against Royal Challengers at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, clearly making the tournament an overnight hit.
The side’s performance graph in the league has seen steep highs and lows. Starting from three back to back first round exits to title wins in 2012 and 2014, KKR has struggled for only one factor – consistency. They are either too hot to handle or end up being minnows.
That being said, KKR has always managed to get hold of some of the best domestic and foreign talents; Chris Gayle, Brad Hodge, Jacques Kallis, Ajit Agarkar and Brett Lee to name a few apart from other names who are currently a part of the squad.
