The Delhi Daredevils batsman Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the opening phase of Indian Premier League (IPL) as the right-handed opening batsman is down with chicken pox. A Delhi Daredevils official confirmed the news to Cricketnext and termed this unfortunate.

This has come as a big blow for the team as they will be missing out on the series of JP Duminy and Quinton de Kock, who have pulled out of the tournament and with Iyer ruled out, it’s something which the team might find difficult to cope up with.

The responsibility now falls on likes of Karun Nair, Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant to carry the team ahead.

Iyer was recently called in the Indian cricket team for the Dharamsala Test match as a backup for Virat Kohli. Though he was not given a chance but affected a run out, in the only over he came to field as a substitute.

Delhi Daredevils squad: Angelo Mathews, Corey Anderson, Kagiso Rabada, Pat Cummins, Ankit Bawne, Aditya Tare, Murugan Ashwin, Navdeep Saini, Shashank Singh, Mohammed Shami, Shahbaz Nadeem, Jayant Yadav, Amit Mishra, Shreyas Iyer, Zaheer Khan, Sam Billings, Sanju Samson, Chris Morris, Carlos Brathwaite, Karun Nair, Rishabh Pant, CV Milind, Syed Ahmed, Pratyush Singh.
