Saina Nehwal beat Carolina Marine in a grueling three sets game by 19-21, 25-23 and 21-16 at the Syed Modi Indian Grand Prix at Lucknow, earlier today. It was an excellent match as both the players fought for each point. Saina Nehwal played a great game and came back in the game every time. The match was watched by capacity crowd in Lucknow.

In the first game Carolina Marine was off to good start taking 3-1 lead. After that Saina started to comeback in the game equaling at 8-8. Carolina Marina took the lead at the interval at 11-9. After the interval Saina Nehwal came back again in the game taking an 18-14 lead in the game but Carolina Marine took the advantage of Saina’s unforced errors to win the first game 19-21.

In the second game Carolina Marine was off to a good start again taking a 5-2 lead but Saina came back into the match with great stroke play at net. Saina took the lead at the interval at 11-8. After the interval both of the players fought for each point. Carolina Marine at one stage reached 20-19, after being 19 all just 2 points away from the match up but Saina came back at 20 all. Saina Nehwal had game point 3 times before winning the game 25-23 at the end.

In the third game Saina Nehwal began off to a positive note taking a 4-3 lead and continued to take 9-4 lead. Her smashes and net play was brilliant. At the interval it was 11-5 for Saina Nehwal. After the interval Carolina Marine tried to come back in the game up to 14-20. Then Saina Nehwal took last froma drop near the net to win game match and game 21-16.

It was a great performance by the top female Indian player who played exceptionally well to retain the title. She won the title in 2014 also. It was good a good beginning for the Indian player in 2015. The medal ceremony saw Saina smiling all the way being presented with, flower Bouquet, a trophy and cheque for US $ 9,000. One could see tears of joy in Saina’s mother who was highly emotional.
