The much-anticipated season-opener of the tenth edition of Indian Premier League between last year’s finalists Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore in Hyderabad could be spoiled by rain as showers kissed the city on Tuesday (April 4).
The rain was not very heavy but the pitch had to remain under covers for the majority of the day. Also, the practice sessions had to be called off and the current signs are not encouraging either.
Officials from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad, said the rains were brought on by a trough of moisture-laden air travelling from Chhattisgarh to North Kerala and forecast light rains during the late evenings for the next 48 years.
“This trough has been infusing moisture into the air currents passing over the city, which has led to the development of convective – rain-bearing – clouds over the city. These winds are expected to pass through the state for the next 48 hours. Under this effect, there would be light rains and thunder showers over the city in the evenings,” said Dr Y K Reddy, director (in-charge) of IMD Hyderabad.
Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Tom Moody also posted two videos on Instagram, showing the players practicing indoors.
