Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper David Warner has been left in awe of Yuvraj Singh after the southpaw’s match winning knock against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the opening game of the season.
Warner remarked that it was vintage Yuvi on display who played in his old-fashioned manner without any inhibition.
“That’s the Yuvi (Yuvraj Singh) that I am used to watching on TV. It was superb stroke and clean hitting play from him, he backed himself. That’s the way that we know he can play and that’s the way that we want him to keep playing,” Warner said at the post-match press conference.
Yuvraj’s performance will obviously be very vital for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in their title defence. It cannot be denied. An example of the impact Yuvi’s knock can create was on full display, as his whirlwind batting show set the stage for SRH to pile on 207/4 in 20 overs.
His 58-runs partnership for the 3rd wicket with Moises Henriques was the point where RCB lost half the match. Warner opined if Yuvraj manages to replicate the same performance few more times in upcoming matches then SRH will surely sail into the finals without much fuss.
“A great start. We take a lot of confidence from the win. Before the game, we had some pressure because we are defending champions. But the way we came out and played it was fantastic. Our middle-order and top-order were fantastic. 200 on this wicket was a good score.
“If he can do that another five or six times in the tournament we will easily make the final and can also win,” he added.
RCB, who fielded a depleted side without skipper Virat Kohli and Ab de Villiers, felt the absence of the duo badly as they failed to chase the huge target. Opener Gayle and Mandeep Singh got the team to a great start but the SRH bowlers pulled back things quickly to throw them out of the game.
“While defending there were a few nerves in the middle but we needed just one wicket. It was Fantastic an all-around effort,” he said.
Meanwhile, David Warner will also hope to get going as soon as possible. The left-hander’s contributions with the bat was the main reason behind SRH’s title win last year.
The opening game was a bit dull for him after a promising start but he will hope to be at his best when SRH take on Gujarat Lion in their next fixture on April 9th.
