Real Madrid and Zinedine Zidane managed to consolidate their place at the top of the La Liga points table as they managed to put in a decent performance against a struggling Leganes side on Wednesday.
The La Liga giants started the game in fine fashion even with a number of star players left out of the starting XI.
The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Toni Kroos and Karim Benzema were all missing from the team that took on Leganes but the Bernabeu outfit ran out 4-2 winners in what was a slightly tricky game for the European champions.
Colombian star James Rodriguez got to start this game in an advanced role and he did not disappoint, as he opened the scoring for his side on the night.
But the 25-year old was the first player to be subbed off on the night, even after putting a shift and he was seen frustrated at this decision from his manager.
Rodriguez was seen walking off the pitch in disgust, before taking out his frustration on the dug-out.
This has seen a number of fans fear for his future at the club but the manager Zinedine Zidane does not want to read too much into his reaction.
Speaking to the media after the victory over Leganes, Zidane revealed that he is not going to take any action against the player for his antics after being subbed off.
“We did not speak about it, but it is normal when you come off,” he said.
“You want to play the 90 minutes. So these things can happen. But it’s over now. I will remember just that he played a good game.
“I have nothing against James, just the opposite. He comes off often in games, that is true. But when you make changes it is normal that they come off — it also happens with Karim [Benzema],” he added.
The 25-year old attacker has constantly been linked with an exit with the likes of Chelsea, Bayern Munich, PSG and even Liverpool interested in his signature.
But Zidane has already revealed that he is not ready to let him leave this summer and will not have to show that he trusts him for the rest of the season.
Real Madrid were in a tricky situation in this game where they went from a 3-0 lead to a 3-2 score line in the matter of 10 minutes before the break.
Leganes scored twice in three minutes before the break to push Real on the back foot but Alvaro Morata came up with the good to push them 4-2 down and steal all three points from this tie.
Rodriguez was influential in this game and will hope that he will be in the starting XI for the game at the weekend.
