It was the happy moment for the hosts Royal Challengers Bangalore as they had their captain Virat Kohli back to bolster the batting line-up, but it was Mumbai Indians bowlers, who held their nerve to restrict star-studded side on 142 for five in 20 overs.
Pawan Negi remained unbeaten on run-a-ball 13 and Stuart Binny scored six off four deliveries.
Earlier, Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field first on the pitch which had a lot on offer for the batsmen but Mumbai Indians bowlers bowled with discipline to make the things tough for Royal Challengers in their backyard.
Coming to bat Virat Kohli alongside Chris Gayle set 63-run partnership in 9.2 overs before out of form Gayle (22 off 27 balls) was caught by wicket-keeper Parthiv Patel on the bowling of Hardik Pandya.
On the other side, Kohli, who made his comeback after recuperating with shoulder injury scored 62 off 47 balls, before he was caught by Jos Buttler on the bowling of Mitchell McClenaghan.
AB de Villiers, who played blazing innings in his first game was able to score just 19 off 21 balls as he perished on the bowling of Krunal Pandya when skipper Rohit Sharma took a left-handed stunner in the thirty-yard circle.
Mandeep Singh was cleaned up McClenghan on nought off the single ball after Kedhar Jadhav was run out by Jasprit Bumrah on 9 off 8 balls.
