Pakistan left-arm fast bowler Rumman Raees has praised national team’s legendary fast bowler and former skipper Wasim Akram for his significant tips during the recently concluded second edition of Pakistan Super League in the United Arab Emirates, where pacer was the part of Islamabad United.
While talking to PakPassion, Rumman has expressed his delight over his performance during the PSL as the franchise Islamabad United was guided by Wasim Akram alongside head coach Dean Jones.
The 25-year-old bowler Raees has lavish praise on Akram for boosting his morale while being the part of a team which further comprised of experience in the form of Misbah-Ul-Haq as a skipper followed by all-rounder Shane Watson and wicketkeeper-batsman Brad Haddin.
“When you play under the guidance of such great personalities, it does wonders for your confidence. With their help, I have become more game aware and have learnt to adjust my game to varying match conditions,” Raees told PakPassion.
Raees, who made international debut last year against the West Indies, has played two Twenty20 Internationals in which he bagged a solitary wicket, stated he is giving his best to focus on his game to cement his place in the national team.
“I have learnt how to prepare myself mentally for the game ahead, how to handle oneself and keep control of one’s feelings when under extreme pressure and to continue to stay focussed on the game plan,” Raees said.
While stating the credit for his PSL success, Raees has lauded the efforts of senior players and coaches for having a firm faith in him.
“Apart from the mental aspects of the game, when it comes to sharpening your skills, you cannot have a better teacher than Wasim Akram. I am very lucky in that way as I was always a great fan of Wasim Akram from a very young age,” Raees remarked.
Raees has further expressed satisfaction over his bowling action after receiving valuable inputs from Akram, who suggested him to fine tune the action after his bowling graph was all over the place.
“To have him advise me and give me such detailed tips is simply incredible. During the PSL it was very normal for him to watch me bowl and then bowl himself to show me what I needed to change,” Raees concluded.
