Tamil Nadu's Abhinav Mukund Joins Dhaka Premier League (DPL) 1

The Tamil Nadu Ranji skipper Abhinav Mukund, who went unsold in the IPL auction has joined the ongoing edition of Dhaka Premier League.

He will be representing Mohammedan Sporting Club, which has likes of Tamil Iqbal, Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Subashis Roy.

Before arriving in Bangladesh earlier this morning, Mukund confirmed to TOI that he will be there for three weeks,

“I will be leaving for Bangladesh on Sunday. I’m going there to get some games under my belt during this off-season. The standard of cricket is good and some top cricketers are part of that league. I’m expected to be there for around three weeks,” quoted Abhinav Mukund.

Mukund was recently recalled in the Indian Test squad for the one-match Test series against Bangladesh. He retained his place for the four-Test match series against Australia as well. He made a place in the playing XI in the Bangalore Test against the mighty Aussies.

However, he failed to capitalise on the opportunity and was replaced by fit-again Murali Vijay in the following game.

Mukund had been in good form in the Ranji Trophy 2016/17, as he scored 849 runs at an average of 65.30. He also led the team to the semi-final stage before losing to Mumbai in the knockout game.

Apart from Mukund, there are five other Indian cricketers who are already part of the Dhaka Premier League. Unmukt Chand, Services veteran Yashpal Singh, Parvez Rasool, Abhishek Nayar and Uday Kaul are currently playing in the tournament for various teams.

In the last season as well we saw a large turnout of Indian players in the league, as there were a  total of 21 players who participated in the List A tournament which included likes of Manoj Tiwary and Yusuf Pathan also.

It’s a good opportunity for Mukund to keep himself engaged during the offseason, as there are bright chances of him being named as the captain of the India A side which will travel to South Africa in the month of June.
