Irfan Pathan finally got an IPL game after a break of almost one year, as the all-rounder, who replaced an injured Dwayne Bravo in the side got a game in place of Nathu Singh, skipper Suresh Raina announced at the time of the toss after he decided to bat first.
Pathan, who was with Rising Pune Supergiant last year, surprisingly went unsold in the IPL auction. He came up with few impressive performances in domestic cricket and finally, the opportunity arrived at him when he replaced Dwayne Bravo in Lions camp.
Mumbai Indians also made two changes to the side, as fit-again Krunal Pandya got his place back from Karn Sharma, whereas, Lasith Malinga was the other addition to the team in place of Mitchell Johnson.
A win is a need for both the teams, as a loss from here will be demoralising for both the captains.
Here is what both the captains said at the time of the toss –
Rohit Sharma:
“We would have bowled first. Looks a little dry than what we have seen here. The feeling is good among the team. We still got to come out and do the basics right. Malinga and Krunal replace Johnson and Karn Sharma.”
Suresh Raina:
“We are going to bat first. The wicket looks dry. We have done really well in all departments. Irfan Pathan is playing in place of Nathu Singh.”
