Jaypee Punjab Warriors pulverized Delhi Waveriders 7- 0 in the Hockey India League match at Mohali today. It was a dominating performance by Jaypee Punjab Warriors. Jaypee Punjab Warriors had lost their previous match to UP Wizards 2-1. It was complete domination by Jaypee Punjab Warriors. Jaypee Punjab Warriors had defeated Delhi Waveriders 3-1 at Delhi.
In the first quarter Jaypee Punjab Warriors began off to a great start. They earned a penalty corner in the 4th minute and converted the penalty corner into a goal to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Delhi Waveriders did not play very well. At the end of the 1st quarter it was 1-0 in favor of Jaypee Punjab Warriors.
The second quarter also started off to good note for Jaypee Punjab Warriors as SV Sunil scored a field goal to give Punjab a 2-0 lead. Delhi also got chances but did not convert the chances into a goal. In the 12th minute Delhi Waveriders got a penalty corner. They got another penalty corner but the wrong tackle from Punjab gave Delhi Waveriders a penalty stroke but Antie Hayward missed the stroke. At the end of 2nd quarter it was 2-0 in favor of Jaypee Punjab Warriors.
The 3rd quarter saw Jaypee Punjab Warriors raise the bar of the game as they missed a chance in 1.35minutes. In 2.35minutes Simon Orchard scored a brilliant one on one goal to give Jaypee Punjab Warriors a 3-0 lead. In 5.35 minutes the hosts missed another chance. Delhi got chance in 8.52 minute when they missed a goal from a pass. In the 9th minute Delhi missed another chance when Jaypee Punjab Warriors made a excellent save. In the 12th minute Delhi missed one more chance which they should have converted. In the 14th minute Jaypee Punjab earned another penalty corner and Sandeep Singh converted the corner into a goal to give Jaypee Punjab Warriors a 4-0 lead. At the end of 3rd quarter it was 4-0 for hosts
In the fourth quarter Jaypee Punjab earned a penalty corner in the 51st second. Circello hit a loose shot but came back at his stick and converted into goal to give Jaypee Punjab Warriors a 5-0 lead. In 4.18 minute Hammond scored an excellent field goal to give Jaypee Punjab Warriors 6-0 lead. In 7.29 minute Jaypee Punjab earned another penalty corner and Sandeep Singh converted the penalty corner into goal and a 7-0 lead. This goal gave the hattrick for Sandeep Singh. Delhi tried to score goal in the last few minutes but were unsuccessful. At the end of fourth quarter it was 7- 0 in favor of hosts.
With this win Jaypee Punjab Warriors has assured the place in the semi finals. Sandeep Singh is the highest goal scorer in the tournament with 8 goals.
