After winning their first away game against Kings XI Punjab last week, Sunrises Hyderabad continued their form in their fortress i..e. their home ground as well. The defending champions defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by a margin of 48 runs to hand KKR its third defeat.
The script of the win was written by the skipper David Warner himself, as he led the team from the front by playing superlative innings of 126. He showed that a captain has to raise his performance in order to expect the same from the team.
The Australian vice-captain made look Shikhar Dhawan just a show piece at the other end, which is evident from the fact that Warner contributed 104 runs, out of 139 runs that the opening pair contributed.
The way he was playing, it looked like Warner might break Gayle’s record of the highest score in IPL but destiny didn’t allow him to do so. However, till his dismissal, the damage was already done, as he had provided the path from to the team which allowed the other batsmen to just come and go bang-bang mode to the put up big total.
The team made most of its aggressive start and in the end, asked KKR to chase down a huge total of 210, which the visitors couldn’t chase.
Wth this win, Sunrisers Hyderabad continued their winning streak at their home ground by virtue of sealing the fifth consecutive win.
Here is what an elated captain David Warner said after the game –
David Warner – (Man of the Match):
“Outstanding. We lost the toss but on this wicket, we were looking to bat first and be positive from ball one. We got to 10rpo and we managed to maintain it throughout the partnership. Shikhar’s run-a-ball contribution was fantastic. It helped a lot. In the last game, I played the second role. (Fielding at long-on and long-off) can be challenging at times for a captain. We tried our best to make this our fortress and we can’t thank the crowd enough.”
