Royal Challengers Bangalore’s South Africa recruit AB de Villiers will be hoping for a change in his fortunes when his side take on England in upcoming One-Day International series. The South Africa ODI skipper has left his Indian Premier League side to join the national side. The Proteas will play a three-match ODI series along with two practice matches against the Three Lions. The warm-up games will be played on the 19th and 21st of May while the series starts on 24th May.
The upcoming series against England will serve as the much-needed preparation series for AB de Villiers before he leads his side in the all-important ICC Champions Trophy 2017 which starts on June 1 in England. The right-handed batsman did not enjoy the best of the IPL this season. With only 216 runs in 9 matches, de Villiers has had a forgettable season with the bat. In fact, his team Royal Challengers Bangalore have also endured a torrid time in the ongoing IPL season. The finalists of last year were the first team to bow out this season and have been shoddy in all departments. With just a couple of wins in 13 matches so far, the Virat Kohli-led side have been looking like a pale shadow of the team that had blown away almost every team that came in their way last season.
But now that he has returned to his native country, de Villiers will be hoping to get back his form before the Champions Trophy.
He is currently spending some quality time with his family before joining the national team for the England series. The 33-year old took to Twitter to express his happiness over getting some quality time with the family. At the same time, he expressed his disappointment over a dismal IPL season.
“A disappointing #IPL2017. Some tough lessons learnt that we take in to next year! Happy to be home with the family before the #CT17 in June,” the Protea star tweeted.

Apart from de Villiers, Delhi Daredevils’ Chris Morris and Kagiso Rabada, Kings XI Punjab duo David Miller, Hashim Amla and Rising Pune Supergiant star Faf du Plessis have also left India for the ODI series.
