Umar Akmal, Junaid Khan Avoid Suspension, Invites Warning For Verbal Spat 1

Both Umar Akmal and Junaid Khan are set to receive an official warning from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for their verbal spat during the Pakistan One day cup last month. The controversy erupted when Umar Akmal, the skipper of Punjab side, during the Pakistan one-day cup when asked about changes in his side revealed that he had no whereabout of Junaid, who was not in the dressing room as he said,

“I just found out when I walked into the ground that he [Junaid Khan] is absent. I am very surprised. The manager and coach told me he is not going to be playing today. It’s a shocking news for me as a captain,” Akmal said.

To his reply, the pacer soon released a video within few minutes in which he expressed disappointment after hearing this,
“I am very disappointed to hear about what Umar Akmal has said just now giving the impression I ran away from this match. The fact is I am dealing with a case of food poisoning and I had informed the team management about this and they were aware of this fact and the team doctor advised me rest,” Junaid said.
Soon, the PCB took the note of the incident and set up a  committee to probe the matter, which was asked to come up with findings soon.
Both the players have escaped a ban but are set to receive a warning as one of the members revealed the findings to APP
“The inquiry committee set by the board will submit it’s reported in a day or so. But it is clear both the players are not going to face any suspension. However, they will be given a strict warning with the advice to avoid such statements in future.”

Both the players are interestingly the part of the Champions Trophy squad, announced by PCB last month. Pakistan will kick off its Champions Trophy campaign against India when they face the defending champions on June 4 at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
