Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir’s recent slump in form continued as he managed to score only 8 runs off 18 balls in the ongoing match against Kings XI Punjab. The southpaw had started the season with a bang, scoring an unbeaten 73 in the season-opener against the Gujarat Lions. Continuing his red-hot form, he scored 4 half-centuries in the next 9 matches to amass 373 runs. However, he managed to score only 49 runs in the next 3 matches and his poor form continued against the Kings XI too.
The left-handed came to the crease after the dismissal of Sunil Narine. With 39 runs already on the board in only 3.4 overs, Gambhir had the opportunity to take his time to get back into his groove and the Knight Riders star did exactly that. He took some balls to settle down but in doing so he consumed too many deliveries. The pressure finally got the better of him and he finally played an unusual shot to get out.
With the Kings XI bowler drying up the boundaries with some disciplined bowling, Gambhir tried to break the shackles by going for a big shot to a Rahul Tewatia delivery in the tenth over. The leg-spinner bowled a wrong one which Gambhir tried to slog over the deep mid-wicket boundary. However, his shot failed to cover the distance and went up high towards the deep mid-wicket boundary where Shaun Marsh made no mistake in pouching the catch.
Here is a clip of the dismissal:
