Royal Challengers Bangalore star Chris Gayle might have endured a torrid time in this tenth edition of the Indian Premier League but the hard-hitter from Jamaica’s spirits is as high as he has always displayed.
Days after his dismal IPL season ended, the self-proclaimed ‘universe boss’ claimed that he is still the king.
One of the prime reasons behind Royal Challengers’ poor season was Gayle’s indifferent performance with the bat. Arguably the finest batsman in the shortest format of the game, Gayle looked out of form throughout the tournament. In fact, the West Indian also found himself warming the bench on more than one occasion owing to his poor form.
His only significant contribution in IPL 2017 was a 38-ball 77 against Gujarat Lions which not only helped his side to get back to winning ways but also made Gayle the first batsman to bring up 10,000 T20 runs.
But the 77-run knock was preceded with scores of 32, 6, 22 and was followed with scores of 7, 8, 0, 0 and 48. He finished the tournament with only 200 runs in nine outings at a modest average of 22.22.
As expected, he was criticised for his poor performances in the tournament, but the maverick batsman, it seems, is not too much bothered with it and his during his latest promotional video, he totally proves it.
The video, which was uploaded on Twitter, showed Gayle promoting a brand he endorses and responding to fans and trolls who tweeted to him.

Here are some of the tweets he responded to:
Tweet: Christopher Henry Gayle you beast you’re the king
Gayle’s response: Oh, I love that guy. That guy is a champion. You tweeted that? Of course I’m a king.
Tweet: My friends beat me up because I said Chris Gayle is better than Virat Kohli #chrisayleistheman
Gayle’s response: The guy who beat you up, I need to have a word with him, okay? Because no one beats my fans and gets away with it.
Tweet: Chris Gayle looks like the guy that will beat you up for asking stupid questions or saying butter chicken is nonsense
Gayle’s response: Let me tell you this — I’m not a fighter, I’m a lover. So you might see Chris Gayle a bit aggressive on the field by hitting sixes. That’s my job, that’s where I keep the aggression.
The opening batsman concluded the session:
“It was great fun reading these tweets, I really enjoyed it. Hopefully, you guys had fun as well. Keep sending your tweets out to me to make sure you get a chance to interact with Chris Gayle.”
