Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is taking his part as Australia’s No.1 spin bowler very seriously with Xavier Doherty improbable to play many if any games this International Cricket Council Cricket World Cup 2015. News.com.au reported on Wednesday that Glenn Maxwell’s record points he is more part-timer, but the bright dynamic batsman has made bowling a main focus over past few months and he is preparing as if he will carry 10 overs a match.
It is surmised George Bailey will be the player to make way for returning skipper Michael Clarke on Saturday, but if it were Shane Watson who was a surprising exclusion, The 26 year old would be needed for extra responsibilities against Bangladesh. Glenn Maxwell got his career-best 4 wickets in the One Day International (ODI) tri-series finale against England, but bowled only 4 overs in the ICC World Cup opener pointing his part will vary from game to game.
Glenn Maxwell is ready to views himself as a front-liner: “I prepare in the nets as if I’m going to be required to bowl 10 overs. So I suppose with that in mind I do feel like I’m a bowler in this team, especially the last game where we only had myself as the spinner.
I expect to bowl 10 overs if required. I know we’ve obviously got a couple of all-rounders in the team who are going to bowl, but if you don’t prepare that way I think you’re selling yourself short.”
The 26 years old said he would not live in the One Day International match as a part-time spin bowler even if he wanted to. There are fielding limitations which mean squads can have no more than 4 players outside the circle at any time, have made spinning a full-time job this ICC World Cup.
He added that one has to do his homework a wee bit more on sure batters. HE said when one had 5 out he knows what had to do. He had to bowl with 3 out on the leg side and 2 out on off side, it was pretty simple for a spin bowler to have his field at the start. Now he has to think about it. It would be good to get a few wickets that spin for Australians this ICC World Cup but he is not holding his breath.
