WWE: Raw May 22, 2017 - Analysis 1

This week’s Raw was better than some of the previous weeks but one thing, only one thing makes it completely terrible.

Everything they tried was to improve their status, all the matches that were booked, all went into the vein because of this one mistake.

It was the match between Finn Balor and Karl Anderson. We have no idea why they are doing this. They booked the club and Balor against each other in a match a number of weeks ago. That match was condemned badly and they did it again this week.

Why? If you do not understand our point then you have to be informed about a number of things from outside of WWE. There is a faction based on Japanese Pro Wrestling called the Bullet Club.

It is considered as the best stable in the world of professional wrestling right now. Finn Balor was a member of the stable when he was in Japan. He was known as Prince Devitt back then. Gallows and Anderson were members of that stable too. Yes, these three athletes were members of the best faction of the world and they were friends.

Right now in WWE, they are fighting each other. Why? We do not know. That is right, no legit reason is given for these wrestlers fighting each other. You have to assume something by yourself. Balor is fighting his friends just because they are the heel and he is a babyface. No other reason for this fight.

This is one of the worst pieces of bookings in WWE history. We never said this before, but after watching this, we need to say this; Vince McMahon should kick out the entire Raw creative team immediately and replace them with someone new.

Michael Cole constantly mentioned their friendship back in Japan during the match, which made things even worse, because he could not give any legit reason for this fight.

About the other things of the night, we had ten matches in total this week on Monday Night Raw. Even a pay per view does not feature so many matches. We are not criticising them for booking so many matches, there is a good side, of course, most of the wrestlers get booking time, so it is good. But so many matches in a show means lack of quality matches. You can only provide a quality match only when you get a longer booking time. So we think they should concrete on quality more than quantity.

The other good side of this week was all the ongoing feuds got a good build up. Their main goal is to hype the fatal five-way match. Even Paul Heyman made a surprise entrance to hype the match. So far it looks like Finn Balor is going to meet Brock Lesnar at the Great Balls of Fire….. I seriously hate to take this name.

Matt hardy and Sheamus produced a cool match and it was stipulated as the winner gets to choose the stipulation for their match at Extreme Rules. Matt Hardy won the match and he announced a Steel Cage match at Extreme Rules. We have to admit that this is a good piece of booking. We have not seen tag team cage matches in a long time. So this is a good idea of course.

Final Verdict – As we said, the week was not that bad. It was definitely better than a number of previous weeks, but whatever they did with the Bullet Club, it can never be forgiven. Elias Samson made his Raw debut finally on this show, and Samson looked pretty impressive too.

Hopefully, he will have a good mid card run. The hype for the fatal 5-way match was good. And they did a decent job in building up the Kendo Stick on a Pole match between Alexa Bliss and Bayley. The use of Kendo Stick again and again to hype this match was good. We would rate this week as a good one, but just because of the club angle, we rate it as an average show.
