Indian opener Rohit Sharma is back in the thick of the action after missing out the first Champions Trophy warm-up game against New Zealand. He will be seen in action against Bangladesh in the second practice game at the Kennington Oval. He was unavailable due to some personal commitments and arrived late in London.
The Mumbai batsman is one of the strong points of the Indian batting order and will get some much-needed match practice ahead of the highly important opening game against Pakistan on June 4th at Edgbaston.
India scripted a satisfying 45-run victory against New Zealand opening warm-up match. The game was interrupted by rains but India had until then ensured that the match was in their pocket after being asked to chase a paltry total of 190
It will be wonderful to see the successful Rohit Sharma – Shikhar Dhawan pair once again in action. The duo played a huge role in the title win in the last edition. The right-hander will be no short of confidence after having tasted a success as a captain, leading his side Mumbai Indians to their third title victory.
But, while Rohit is set to return, the uncertainty surrounding Yuvraj Singh’s availability is still present as he is still recovering from a bout of viral fever. India would hope that the star all-rounder would make himself fit before the tournament opener.
Bangladesh will prove to be a tricky opponent. They will be in no mood to take thing lightly even though the upcoming fixture is for practice purpose in their first practice game against Pakistan, the Bangladeshi hammered 342 runs before unfortunately losing later due to a couple individual brilliance from Pakistan.
They would be upbeat about the game.
India, however, won’t be an easy target. They effortlessly outmatched New Zealand in the previous game and will not be taking their upcoming opponents lightly.
The likes of Ajinkya Rahane, MS Dhoni, Dinesh Karthik, Kedar Jadhav will be looking forward to getting the feel of the leather after being denied a chance to bat against New Zealand. The bowlers, who had a really good time, will once have an opportunity of testing the waters.
