Virat Kohli Does Not Have Veto Power To Chose Coach: Sources 1

Virat Kohli does not have the veto power and it will be the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) which will select the new Head Coach of Indian cricket team, a source told TOI.

With all the tensions going in the Indian team, it is expected that Champions Trophy will be the last stint for Anil Kumble as the Head Coach of the side. Virat Kohli was expected to have a big say in deciding the new coach for the side but now it has been learnt that the captain will only have its say in the decision-making process, but doesn’t have a veto power to pick a coach,

“Kohli can say whatever he wants but he won’t get his choice of the coach until the advisory panel agrees to it. He doesn’t have the veto power to decide the new coach. He only has the power to select the playing XI. This does not mean that he can’t give his preferences. He can spell out his choice of candidate but the final call will be taken by the CAC,” a top BCCI source said.

This might come as a blow for the Indian skipper who persuaded Virender Sehwag to apply for the post after the former aggressive batsman showed little interest. Sehwag threw his hat in the ring in the eleventh hour, just like Anil Kumble did last year.

It has also been learnt that Sehwag had a meeting with member of the CAC. In fact, he is sharing the commentary box with Sourav Ganguly in the Champions Trophy.

The new coach of Indian team will be announced just after Champions Trophy when Kumble’s contract as the Head Coch of the side will come to an end. The new coach is expected to fly to West Indies, where the visiting side will play five ODIs and one T20I.
