On a bright sunny day in London, fans anticipated a decent clash between Sri Lanka and South Africa in the opening game of Group B. However, as the day went on, it got simply worse for the Sri Lankan outfit, as the chase derailed against the sheer accuracy and guile of Imran Tahir.
The day began for South Africa on a circumspect note, as the usual De Kock- Amla pair was rather subdued and didn’t go after the Sri Lankan new ball bowlers. De Kock missed out despite a settled start but his opening partner Hashim Amla made it count with a real big one. Amla got to his 25th ODI century in the process and became the quickest batsman to get to the milestone, brushing ahead of Virat Kohli.
Needing 300 to win, Sri Lanka got off to a superb start, as Niroshan Dickwella and Upul Tharanga attacked the South African bowlers. Once Dickwella was dismissed for 41, however, there was utter chaos, as backed by some acrobatic out fielding South Africa stormed back into the game.
It was then the turn of Imran Tahir to prove his match winning credentials, as he spun the aweb around the Sri Lankan batting lineup. Tahir picked up three wickets and single-handedly made a mess of the run chase for Sri Lanka.
Fans on Twitter reacted as the game went on and below are some of the tweets.
Said in team intro South Africa's bowlers could be expensive but expected them to be too strong for Sri Lanka. So far SL very impressive.

Typical Sri Lankan innings
1. Great aggressive start – 1-10 overs
2. Batting collapse – 11-35 overs
3. Slight fightback #SLvSA— Sakun (@Sakun_SD) June 3, 2017
