Fierce sledging and top notch banter has always been an indispensable part of the India-Pakistan rivalry and the ongoing match between the two arch-rivals at Edgbaston in the ICC Champions Trophy is not an exception either. In fact, the war of words has started right from the first over.
The last decade has seen a sharp decline in the bilateral ties between the two arch-rivals due to the escalating political tension and as a result, they have not a played a full-fledged series since 2007 when Pakistan visited India for three Tests and five One-Day Internationals. So each and every cricket fan was eagerly waiting to see both the teams in action in the Champions Trophy and it will be safe to say that if the first over is something to go by then the fans are going to witness an absolute blockbuster.
After Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed won the toss and decided to field first, Mohammad Amir began on a brilliant note as he beat Rohit Sharma’s bat on the very first delivery and his second ball was even better. Amir once again bowled in the corridor of uncertainty, forcing Rohit to play but fortunately for the batsman, the ball did not take the edge before going into the safe gloves of the wicketkeeper. And as soon as the ball flew past Rohit’s bat, Amir made a mild appeal before turning towards Rohit Sharma to say something. Not the one to stay quite, the India opener retaliated by giving the Pakistani bowler a piece of his mind.
Here is a clip of that incident:
