On Friday, Narayanaswami Srinivasan apologized to the Supreme Court for appearing in a Board of Control for Cricket in India working committee meeting in spite of a Supreme Court order which asked him to stay away from Board matters till his “conflict of interest” charges were cleared.
Narayanaswami Srinivasan’s lawyer, Kapil Sibal said the Supreme Court bench that the International Cricket Council chairman will not involve in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) AGM on 2nd March. It explicitly means Narayanaswami Srinivasan will not be able to compete the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) elections.
Moreover, Narayanaswami Srinivasan can involve as a general member and will be capable to cast his vote in case of polls.
After Friday’s court orders, Narayanaswami Srinivasan’s innings as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief, he was president-in-exile during the time period the 2013 Indian Premiere League (IPL) spot fixing case was being examine by a court-appointed panel. The Supreme Court had strictly knocked him out by saying Narayanaswami Srinivasan had conflict of interest in Indian cricket because he also has an Indian Premiere League (IPL) team Chennai Super Kings and had commercial interests.
It is still not made clear whether Narayanaswami Srinivasan will continue to run the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) by proxy by having one of his good supporters become the new president. Reports said that Narayanaswami Srinivasan is supporting current secretary Sanjay Patel to take over the control as president.
Names of former president Jagmohan Dalmiya and Rajeev Shukla, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president are also doing the rounds. Sharad Pawar is likely to compete the Srinivasan team.
