ICC Champions Trophy 2017 - Anil Kumble To Stay On As India's Coach Till West Indies Series 1

In what can be termed as an optimistic and welcome news, India’s head coach Anil Kumble is likely to be retained till the limited overs tour of the West Indies. Vinod Rai, chief of the Committee Of Administrators (COA) appointed by the Supreme Court of India in functioning at tandem with the BCCI, admitted that the body was in favor of retaining the former leg spinner as the team’s coach atleast till the tour of the Caribbean.

This news comes after days of suspicion surrounding Kumble’s future with the Indian side after reports from all sectors made it evident that he wasn’t at the same page with skipper Virat Kohli and a few other members. Kohli however, in his briefing to the press in England, rubbished off all rumors suggesting a cliff with Kumble.

The former spinner’s contract with the Indian team was valid till the end of the ICC Champions Trophy, when he was appointed the job last year. Incidentally, Kumble began his tenure as India’s head coach in West Indies itself, during a four match Test series which India won 2-0. “Anil Kumble to continue as India coach till West Indies tour, subject to his acceptance,” said Rai to reports.

Another official from the BCCI echoed in on Rai’s words. “BCCI president CK Khanna has suggested that as Champions Trophy is still on, it will be not feasible to take a decision on Indian team coach now. The Champions Trophy final will get over on 18th whereas Indian team is leaving for West Indies on 20th.”
