According to some close sources, former BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya is set to become Board chief once again. It has been revealed that Dalmiya is the lone nomination for the post of BCCI President. Dalmiya’s position will be ratified by the Board at its Annual General Meeting that will take place in Chennai tomorrow.

Dalmiya has been emerged as the strongest candidate for the post as he has the backing of six East Zone members, the zone that holds its turn to propose a new President. Till last week, the names of BJP MP and BCCI Joint Secretary Anurag Thakur along with former BCCI and National Congress Party (NCP) chief and Sharad Pawar was doing the rounds to become the successor of N. Srinivasan. It is all but confirmed that Dalmiya has won the backing of the East Zone members inspite of his ailing health.

Anurag Thakur might also have a more important role in BCCI. The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) president is likely to replace Sanjat Patel as the BCCI secretary. But it is not as clear as Dalmiya’s chances because Sanjay Patel may still contest for the Secretary’s position. Former President N. Srinivasan pulled out of the elections after Supreme Court had rebuked him for disobeying its order of chairing a BCCI working committee meeting on February 8.

In Srinivasan’s absence, Shivlal Yadav is the interim BCCI chief.
