BCCI To Make One-Time Payment To Former 13 Test Cricketers

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has accepted the proposal of Committee of Administrators (COA) to pay a one-time benefit to former 13 Test cricketers, who have played one to nine Test matches for India after 1970. The list includes likes of Atul Wassan and Lalchand Rajput – who is one of the applicants in the race to become the next Head Coach of Indian cricket team.

However, Wassan will get an amount of Rs. 10 Lakh as he has already received an amount of 25 Lakh earlier, for playing Test cricket and appearing in more than 80 first-class games.

The recommendation was made earlier which BCCI was reluctant to accept but COA instructed the board to pay one-time benefits to cricketers. The decision will be given a final go on June 26 during BCCI’s SGM.

“Since the COA had already made the decision earlier, it will be approved by the BCCI this time. Going forward, the finance committee of the Board will take a call on matters like these,” a source told PTI.

The one-time benefit is given to the players apart from the monthly pension which they receive from the BCCI. Apart from that, COA also decided to pay a monthly pension to women cricketers who have played one to four Test matches for India.

Earlier, BCCI had already distributed one-time benefits to women cricketers during IPL. Five of the women cricketers viz. Anjum Chopra, Neetu David, Diana Edulji, Shubhani Kulkarni, and Sudha Shah were paid an amount of Rs 30 Lakh as one-time benefits.

Amitabh Choudhary, who is in London a the moment, attended the meeting of behalf of BCCI through Skype.

BCCI’s SGM will take place on June 26 where the decision will be finalised. Along with it, many other decisions including Conflict of interest issue will also be taken in the meeting.
