Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho had spent big in his debut season when he in charge at the club last summer. He made some bold transfer moves to land Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Eric Bailly, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba and inherited the squad from Louis van Gaal.
However, the squad proved to be inadequate to win the Premier League last season despite their success in League cup and Europa League. The Red Devils finished sixth in the league but still managed to qualify for Champions League with their Europa League success.
Mourinho is ready to make some big moves in this summer as the club eye more trophies next season. Manchester United have already made the signing of Victor Lindelof from Benfica in a £30.6 million. The club are ready to make more moves this summer.
However, according to the latest reports from Manchester Evening News, Mourinho is determined to have seven core players for the upcoming season. The Portuguese tactician already has the likes of Eric Bailly, Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan as his three of the seven core players while new signing Victor Lindelof is considered to be the fourth.
The 54-year old also feels that he needs to add three more signings to his squad to get his seven core players for the next season. Mourinho is determined to overcome the imbalance in the squad and will look to make a transition from aged stars in his team with the likes of Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick in their fag end of their respective careers.
The club are set to spend big once again this summer as they set their sights on Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata to sort out their No.9 position. The Red Devils believe the Spaniard would be an ideal replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic but Real Madrid are holding out for a massive £78 million.
Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic is also high among Mourinho’s wishlist this summer as he is being linked with a move to Old Trafford for the past few months. However, price tag remains the major issue to push the deal through.
Manchester United are also keen to sign Monaco’s Fabinho as he would be a huge addition to their defensive midfield with Michael Carrick set to stay only for one more season and not getting any younger. Should the club get all their three signings, Mourinho would have the right personnel to challenge for all the trophies next season.
