With India and South Africa widely tipped to take the top two spots of the Pool B, let us take a look at the possible scenarios for the three teams namely Ireland, West Indies and Pakistan, who are in a for a fight for the quarter-final spot:
-> March 15th: West Indies vs UAE
West Indies suffered a heavy defeat against South Africa (by 257 runs) which hurt their Net Run-Rate quite badly. Against UAE, they will have to win by a huge margin or by 8-9 wickets so that if their is a clash for a spot, they can stay ahead of the other teams.
-> March 15th: Pakistan vs Ireland
Following four scenarios will determine which two among West Indies, Ireland and Pakistan will qualify for the knock-out stage:
1. If West Indies defeats UAE and Pakistan defeats Ireland:
If this happens then West Indies and Pakistan will qualify for quarter-finals. West Indies and Ireland will end up at six points but the former will qualify because of better Net Run-Rate.
2. If West Indies defeats UAE and Ireland defeats Pakistan:
Ireland will surely qualify in the last eight and the one who will have a better Net Run-Rate between West Indies and Pakistan will qualify.
3. If West Indies defeats UAE and Ireland vs Pakistan is a Tie:
In this scenario, West Indies will be knocked out of the tournament due to one point less than both Pakistan and Ireland, as both of them will finish at 7 points each.
4. If West Indies vs UAE is a wash-out (which is very much possible according to the weather reports) and either of Ireland or Pakistan win:
If this happens, West Indies will get knocked out of the tournament and Ireland and Pakistan will qualify for the quarter-finals. Both of them will also qualify if West Indies loses to UAE.
