Zimbabwe captain Elton Chigumbura is ruled out of Zimbabwe’s crucial Pool B clash against Ireland on March 7 at Hobart. Team officials said Chigumbura sustained a muscle tear in his quadriceps while he was fielding in Zimbabwe’s 20-run loss to Pakistan in Brisbane last Sunday. Chigumbura tripped while attempting a diving stop as he attempted to cut off a boundary in the outfield. But later, he came out to bat, fought single-handedly and almost took his side home if not for his Tinashe Panyangara, who played out some dot balls in the end.
Earlier today, Zimbabwe team manager Christian Chiketa said that their medical staff are working hard to get Chigumbura ready for Zimbabwe’s last match against India on March 14.
The physiotherapist is working hard to try to get him [Chigumbura] ready hopefully for the India match [on March 14], Zimbabwe team manager Christian Chiketa said.
Zimbabwe are currently in fifth place in Pool B and have to win both its remaining matches with a better Net Run-Rate to qualify for the quarterfinals.
