Argentina legend Diego Maradona wishes that Cristiano Ronaldo could partner Leo Messi for his national team to help the South American nation win the coveted World Cup trophy.
Maradona also revealed that he is huge fan of the Portuguese captain who had recently helped Real Madrid win Champions League and La Liga. The 32-year old had also helped his national team win Euro 2016 Championships as he enjoyed great 12 months.
Meanwhile, his compatriot Lionel Messi have had stupendous glory with his only club Barcelona since his debut. But the little magician had ensured plenty of frustration with the national team. The 29-year old had a below par season in terms of silverware as he managed only Copa Del Rey with Barca but was on peak form individually over the course of last season.
Messi had lost three Copa America finals in 2007, 2015 and 2016 as well as FIFA World Cup finals in 2014 with Argentina as he still looks for international glory.
The 56-year old Argentine, Maradona who prefers Messi to Ronaldo believes that his countryman would still be remembered for his artistry back in his country.
‘Cristiano is an animal,’ Maradona told TyC Sports. ‘I wish he was Argentine.
‘But I still prefer Messi. He is enjoying playing football and goes by opponents with ease.
‘Leo cannot deliver the World Cup on his own. Even if he does not win a World Cup, we will still remember him.’
Both Messi and Ronaldo are the two of the very best in football history. They have been playing the same league over the past eight seasons and both the players have impressed equally over the time which made comparisons quite difficult.
Messi had recently made a comeback into Argentina team and have pushed the team’s world cup qualifier with his impressive performance earlier this month. The South American team were reeling as they were out of the automatic places.
Only time will tell who will be the greatest of the two as Leo is three years younger to Ronaldo and could play beyond his nemesis to continue breaking records.
