Well, the love to watch cricket in India is unparallel. From remote interior village to the cosmopolitan cities, people follow cricket in a hysterical manner. During the IPL season, people rearrange their schedule so as to watch their favorite team playing.

Recently, during India Pakistan encounter, a very interesting post was seen on Facebook where the guests were provided full screen TV coverage of the match during a wedding celebration. Someone had correctly defined Cricket as the life line of India.

In the latest development, the honorable High court of Guwahati has instructed that cable TV should be installed in the central jail within next five days. So the authorities at the prison in cricket-mad India were busy installing cable television. As per orders of the Judge they had to ensure inmates can watch the ongoing World Cup.

“Prisoners need recreation for a healthy mind,” Judge AK Goswami said on Wednesday.

An official at the jail in the main city of the northeastern state of Assam confirmed installation work had already begun. An officer(not wanted to be named) said, “We are bound to obey the court verdict and television sets with cable connection will be in place within the set deadline of five days”.

This all began when seven prisoners, including a former head of a local tribal council, had filed a petition before the city’s high court asking permission to watch the ongoing World Cup cricket matches.

The petitioners had sought permission saying, “Watching television for news, sports and entertainment is a fundamental right within the purview of the Constitution of India”.

Although the state-run Doordarshan channel is broadcasting India’s matches, the vast majority of the games being played in Australia and New Zealand are only available to subscribers of the Star TV cable network.

In any case it has been reestablished that in India nothing can match the popularity of this game of gentlemen.
