Ravi Shastri applying for the post of Head Coach of Indian cricket team is no surprise as the day Anil Kumble left the job citing untenable relation with the Indian skipper Virat Kohli, the whole world expected Ravi Shastri to apply for the job.
The last date to apply for the Head Coach job had already been closed last month but after Kumble’s exit, the BCCI extended the last date to apply for the post, which has not come good to COA as well. (Read Here: Ravi Shastri To Apply For The Head Coach Of Indian Cricket Team)
While everyone believes that Shastri is all set to take the post of Head Coach of Indian cricket team, Sudhir Naik, the former Indian batsman thinks that it will be a backdoor entry for Ravi Shastri,
“To appoint Shastri at this point is just like a backdoor entry… it is certainly a backdoor entry! It’s a pity that good coaches like Anil Kumble don’t seem to be wanted. The BCCI should make it clear that the coach is the boss and all players should listen and follow his instructions,” Naik told The Mid-Day.
Further, Naik, just like Erapalli Prasanna said that the team don’t need a coach if Kohli thinks that he is the boss,
“If players don’t respect a person like Kumble, then I don’t think this team needs a coach. Let Kohli be the boss. Anyway, we are playing in the West Indies without a coach and things can continue like that,” he added.
Both Shastri and Naik don’t share good relations as Naik, former MCA pitch curator filed a complaint against Ravi Shastri and Bharat Arun following India loss against Sout Africa in the fifth ODI played at Wankhede Stadium in 2015. However, later he withdrew the complaint against both of them.
Coming to the coaching job, looking at the list of applicants for the job, Ravi Shastri is the favourite among all to take the post. However, he will have a strong competition with Virender Sehwag. Both of them are a strong competitor to each other and CAC have a tough task to chose between the talented pool of coaches to chose from.
