David Miller and Wayne Parnell have been named in the South Africa A squad for the two unofficial Test matches against Australia A. Both were the part of the Champions Trophy team where South Africa failed to qualify for the semi-final stage.
This can be seen as a chance for Miller to make a place in the longest format of the game at international level as he is yet to represent the nation in the five-day cricket. It’s a chance for Miller to shine in with the second string side so as to press a case for the future. A performance in this series will help Miller to retain his place for two unofficial Test against India A as well, from where he can eye a permanent place in the side for the long home season of South Africa, where they will host Bangladesh, India and Australia.
Wayne Parnell’s case is a different one as he was dropped from the Test side for the England Test series, having not able to perform well for the side in past series. Aiden Markram, who has recently been named in the Test series against England will lead the A side.
Khaya Zondo will lead the South Africa A in the tri-series against Australia A and India A. The squad has likes of Farhaan Behardien, Henry Davids, Beuran Hendricks, Mangaliso Mosehle, Tabraiz Shamsi and Aaron Phangiso.
Australia A will take on India A in the first game of the tri-series. The final of series will is played on August 8 in Pretoria.
